Pearl is the most revered gemstone since ancient times. It is formed in the depths of salt seas and freshwater rivers within the bodies of living creatures. It is the only naturally occurring round gemstone. In ancient cultures, pearls were regarded as symbols of purity, perfection, and harmony, and they are certainly associated with many mystical beliefs. The cutting of gemstones and glass casting for jewelry emerged precisely to resemble pearls.
In ancient Russian art, there exists a specific type of work with pearls—embroidery. This is a unique way of cutting pearls. The master stitches a white cotton cord onto a frame according to a design, which is then adorned with pearls threaded onto the cord, carefully sewing the stones one by one on top of the cord. The reverse side of the embroidery is glued with several layers of paper or fabric using bone glue and the ornament is cut out with a thin knife. Such ornamental embroideries were used to decorate icons, church utensils, headdresses, and clothing.
I continue the tradition of this craft, embroider modern tiaras based on his sketches, precisely preserving the ancient process of jewelry making. I revive this ancient craft and strive to unite this form of art with fashion, finding it a worthy place in contemporary culture.
This is my the fourth collection of tiaras KEY4 by J. Nikadimus. It is inspired by the harmony of ancient Greek art and the revolutionary spirit of the Art Nouveau era.
